55 Years of Vietnam-Sweden Relations: Achievements and Future Prospects

On the morning of December 6, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy, hosted the seminar “55 Years of Vietnam-Sweden Relations: Achievements and Future Prospects.”

During the seminar, Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam, Johan Ndisi, highlighted the strong political trust and friendship between the two nations, reflected in numerous high-level visits over the years. He emphasized the remarkable growth in Vietnam-Sweden trade relations and their immense potential. “Sweden values its relationship with Vietnam, a vital link in Sweden’s global supply chain,” stated Ambassador Ndisi.

Bui Ha Nam, Director General of the European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed deep respect for the half-century-long relationship. He recalled Sweden as the first Western nation to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam on January 11, 1969, and its unwavering support during Vietnam’s struggle for independence. Even during Vietnam’s early years of economic reform, Sweden extended valuable support in various sectors and actively facilitated Vietnam’s engagement with international financial organizations.

As the global landscape evolves, both nations are actively exploring innovative solutions to maximize cooperation potential. Key focus areas include science and technology, digital transformation, innovation, and sustainable development. These initiatives align with the global trends of peace and collaboration.
